As certain athletic seasons end, new ones begin. One of those being basketball season! Central’s boys and girls basketball season kick
The Central High School Basketball season for both boys and girls began last Monday on October 31. Central had their first looks at a game on Wednesday night at Thompson Boling Arena during the annual jamboree. Both boys and girls teams lost but are still hopeful to better themselves through the rest of the year.
Head coach John Higgins shares his thoughts about how he thinks the season will progress, “I expect us to be better at the end of the year then we are right now. I also expect continuous growth throughout the season.”
Higgins also gives some insight on this years team and last years team, “We have the potential to be as good if not better than last years team. We’ll definitely be different from last season, but different is good.
He goes on to share his goals for the team this season, “My goal for the team is simple, to improve every single day so we can be successful.”
Markess Underwood, 3 year player and 2 year varsity starter, gives his perspective on this season, “I kind of enjoy being the only senior sometimes, but it adds a lot of pressure on me to be a leader.”
“His goal for the team is to work together and play to their full potential so they can win games like he knows they can.”
“It doesn’t feel any different from the last 3 years I’ve been playing.” Markess said. “It is a bittersweet feeling though because I’m ready to be out of high school but I’m going to miss my team.”
