Keagan Cross, sophomore and rock climbing enthusiast, hopes to start a rocking climbing club at Central. Before she is able to start the club, she needs help from anyone else who is interested.
Keagan has been rock climbing since she was younger but has just gotten serious about it this past year. She climbs at Onsight Rock Gym and River Sports. She enjoys the flexibility of the sport being both indoor and outdoor. She also likes the laid back atmosphere that consists of enjoying herself while being active. “It’s like a puzzle” Keagan says.
In order to start this club, she needs at least eight people to be committed. She also needs a teacher sponsor from the school. Onsight Rock Gym has also decided to support her.
Practices will be once a week on Thursdays at Onsight Rock Gym, lead by Keagan herself along with the supervision of the staff at the gym. There won’t be intense practices with hours of conditioning every day, so there is no need to worry about how active you are. There will also be competitions once a month on a Friday.
She wants anyone interested in joining to know that they do not have to be athletic. As said by Keagan, it is a “self-paced” sport. She also described it as a very social sport, which is great for making new friends and experiences. in addition, there is opportunity to interact with other students at central at practices and at other schools at competitions.
