Everyone knows that there’s school, there’s homework. When students don’t have it done the next day, they find the most unique excuses they can give their teachers. This week, we’ve asked just a few teachers the most common excuses they’ve heard from students, as well as how they’ve felt about or dealt with these issues.
Ms. Webb, who used to be a Social Studies teacher here at Central, says that the most common excuses she gets are that, “I did it, but I left it at home”, “I forgot”, or “”I didn’t get home in time to do it”. However, in the majority of cases, she allows her students to make it up because it’s better late then never turning it in!
Science teachers Mr. Grim and Mr. Bergstresser, say that the most unique ones they’ve received from students are ”they had to mow their grandparent’s grave”, “they had to clean their toilets at their house”, and “they made a bet with their friend that if they lost, they couldn’t do their homework.”
English teacher Ms. Sullivan says that she gets a lot of them: “ My puppy ate my homework”, “My cat threw up on my homework”, and “ I left it at my moms house and I’m sleeping at my dad’s.”
Math teacher Mr. Smith that he gets excuses from when students have to work, have a game, or have practice (athletics, band, or chorus), or having another major assignment in another class. But, in all to often, he gets “I just didn’t do it…”
